Garden - by ceramist Susan Stark
Artist-In-Residence, Susan Stark makes functional pottery that she intends for daily use. Stark is intrigued by Islamic art, Indian textiles, and the sublime beauty of nature, and finds inspiration in these for her surface decorations.
Her work incorporates altered terra cotta forms decorated with exposed raw clay, soft floral patterns, and shiny glazes to make these pieces one-of-a-kind.
Currently, she obtains these decorative surfaces by creating raised designs with intaglio cut pressed slabs. Stark believes that the unique forms and surfaces will motivate people to use the pots which is at the heart of what inspires her to be a potter.
Stark has used her work to build a warm and inviting garden, which she, "envisions as a sanctuary from the cold Nebraska winter presently outside."
